OPTICAL SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY
TFX products and services evolved from work in the optical sciences including laser-plasma
physics and optical remote sensing. Advanced directed energy capability requirements
demand significantly reduced size and power and improved targeting under more severe
dynamic conditions. Two breakthrough optical system technology areas with the potential
to meet these requirements are laser-plasma physics and advanced remote sensing (imaging
polarimetry and adaptive optics). Both of these technology areas have spin-off potential
for commercial applications in other markets including biomedical, manufacturing,
and energy/resource exploration. Imaging polarimetry has application potential for
a wide range of national defense and homeland security capability requirements including
sniper detection.
TFX innovative laser-plasma systems for directed energy applications utilize wakefield
acceleration and induced plasma channel technologies. TFX imaging polarimeters and
adaptive optics are rugged small form factor devices providing advanced capabilities
including object detection, discrimination, and identification.
